A friend challenged me to create a piece with a "female warrior", I used a lot of interpretation with the term and made a huntress/shaman like character that uses a "war deer" as a steed.
She's in the process of applying paint, grabbing her deer's antlers to steady him. I tried to keep the background from becoming overly busy ad competing with the detail in the foreground. Greyscale pieces are really fun, and a lot less stressful for me than colored ones.
This looks incredible Having done completely greyscale pictures with a pencil myself, I can totally understand what you mean by "Really fun, and a lot less stressful". Somehow, the ability to do an entire picture without the use of color makes it feel more surreal.
Deer-mounting war shaman? That is just too much awesomeness. And she's in the process of pimping her live ride, a feat of kickass which Xzibit has yet to display. Feathers on a deer? Hell yeah.
You did do well with the simple, yet effective background of the sunlight filtering through the forest, and the deer is skilfully, and realistically drawn. I'm liking the look of this rider as well, and the colourless medium is intriguingly tantalizing, as I can only imagine the strength of those no doubt extremely bold streaks of war paint if the colour of this piece could be seen. Brilliant work on this.
All the details.. This is truely beautiful~! I love the interpretation. It brings the beauty of humankind, animalkind and nature all into one picture! And the tones and lighting casts such a soft feel, yet, that there is strength in the war deer and woman.
I hope that made sense XD It did to my tired brain.
