Suicune's Crystal Lakeby ~Leashe

Probably one of the most requested pokémon I've been asked to do- Suicune.
I made this for a contest I ran over on my facebook page where the winner was to receive a free drawing. I'll be announcing the next time I hold a similar contest, but as of now you can only enter via facebook.

"Suicune is based on the Chinese and Japanese Qilin, a form of unicorn that has traits of deer, giraffes, and other beasts. It is able to walk on water and is known to be a powerful and peaceful creature. The horn on Suicune's head matches the description of the beast's antler's and the long dragon-like muzzle. It also appears that Suicune, unlike its kin, is a herbivore due to its molar teeth, face and eye orientation.......unlike Entei or Raikou, its teeth are blunt, as if those of an herbivore" Bulbapedia

The whole dog/cat thing does not really work for me, especially after doing some research. Bulbapedia refers to suicune as one of the three "Beasts" which does not make any reference to a dog or cat trio. Not to mention I really like the thought of suicune as a creature with unicorn roots.

SO.
I decided to go with a design that is more deer-like in the face. Those "crystal horns" never made much sense to me, so I tried to stick to the design the best I could, and made them separate at the end- which I think would make it more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The body was easier, I went with a more canine/feline deal and made those "ribbons" into tails.

The background was a lot of fun, playing with the colors and composition made this a really enjoyable process. Though I am going to try my hand at corel painter. I learned with this piece there are just some things photoshop doesn't do as well.

Wow, its face is eerily humanlike - like a Japanese spirit or something. I really love your art! Anyone who can make a Pokemon look both feasible and beautiful at the same time gets an A+ from me!

I always thought of Suicune being more of a unicorn in decent... And I thought I was the only one. I love this so much. Turning the ribbons into tails was a very nice touch. <3

Ehmegawd. Favorite of the gen2 trio and excellent interpretation of the scene. I absolutely love how you did the water - perfect shades of blue! Your spinoff of Suicune is really nice, I'm diggin' the horns!
