A commission for the lovely who asked for a machoke.
This piece really put me outside of my comfort zone as I don't normally draw humanoid pokemon, and even then his evolutionary line is really tricky. I wanted to stay true to the original design, and the client wanted a more animal-esque take, which I completely agree with, as the concept of pokemon that look human has always been a little off-putting to me. I turned the power belt into a hand-made object a machop would make as he waited to evolve (as not all machoke are lucky enough to have trainers)
Instead of stretch marks on his arms, I made veins coursing with glowing energy or power until he has fully matured and properly harnessed it.
Machoke aren't supposed to look humanoid anyways, so props to you on that. Though I must wonder, if you're out of your comfort zone when doing humanoid Pokemon, I wonder how you would react if someone asked you to draw Jynx
This is a really nicely met challenge! The veins, glowing with power is a brilliant touch, which looks like something straight out of a special effects movie monster, and really stand out in the really dark shadows, and creates an imposing aura around this hulking beast. This picture has brilliantly contrasted lights and darks which really sets a mood for the piece. The belt is marvellously handled, down to the last intricately placed fibre of its woven look. It's pretty cool to see the more animalistic features on this machoke, like the raised heels often seen on a quadruped. The face is a little odd to look at after being accustomed to picturing machoke as having the head of a straight dinosaur, but it actually is a pretty accurate representation of the pokémon's face, and looking at it again, it almost gives the vibe of being slightly ape-like, which suits its humanoid appearance. I'd say the chest features could probably be more pronounced, seeing as this pokémon is famous for being a hulking muscle mass, but this is still a really cool pokémon picture, which I thoroughly enjoy.
the decision to change the Human-shapped legs into more animal like caughts me a little of guard...
