These are adorable bits of tea ware. Have you ever experimented with scraffito or..crap there's another one but I can't rememeber its name at the moment.
I think the use of those, covered with a glaze would be an excellent way to make your lines sharper and give you the ability to add more detail to these figures. Or, perhaps carving out thin blocks (Where the flat colors would be) and filling them with a layer of interesting, appropriately colored glaze...ther are tons of amazing textured glazes out there. You might be able to find some that do a passable fur, or some interesting pattern.
Or most dramatically, carving the silhouettes into the cups and making the animals from carvings - to be attached, Korean Woodblock style to the pieces.
This series is great though. Gentlemen never fail to make me laugh a little.
