I had some extra time laying around and was able to color a sketch I made earlier.The past few days I have been thinking of an acceptable unicorn design, and this is what I finally came up with- I'm a big fan of unicorns, but I really dislike their portrayal as horses with a horn slapped on.

I figured they would be more deer like, for maneuverability through dense forests, with the male being white for courtship purposes as well as providing the ability to lure humans away from his less brightly colored mate. I also think of unicorns as very peaceful animals, so their horns are not really used for combat as much as courting and digging for plants- so I placed them in a non-aggressive positioning, with the bony crest covering the forehead for protection, while tapering to a series of crown like marks- making them look very regal.

I agree with how you placed the horns on it's head. If the unicorn was a peaceful creature, why would it have a horn positioned for stabbing like a lance? If your version was real, then I think there'd be two different kinds of unicorns.

Very nice concept! It has your flairs of originality yet sticks to to the original design quite nicely. Honestly, it's nice seeing a unicorn more true to its goat/deer roots complete with beard and lion-esque tail.

I've always imagined unicorns as being deer-like, ever since I was little!<3
And I always pictured the females being a more grayish to brownish in color, while the male is pure white!

Unicorns seem more realistic as deer in my opinion. The horned horses are cool, but deer would be better since they actually have antlers and such.

I like either, really. :U But I think yours are cool. This unicorn looks really majestic.
